eTech Ohio ‘09 presentation
My eTech Ohio 2009 Presentation Proposal
One to one programs are becoming a reality with the current generation of cellphones, smartphones,
mobile Internet devices, and ultra mobile PCs (Netbooks). This session will cover the services that are
currently available for integrating mobile devices into the classroom. Also to be discussed are classroom management techniques with mobile technology, and how these mobile devices can be integrated into the curriculum.
Portable devices now being sold are more powerful and useful than computers sold as recently as five
years ago. These devices have the bonus ability of network connectivity, which a teacher can use to not only help the efficiency of her classroom, but to also engage her students in their learning. Some of the uses of mobile technology to be discussed and demonstrated include:
- Blogging and microblogging
- student response systems
- Researching
- Note taking
- RSS reading
- Organizing
Mobile technologies are the future. Already more people connect I the Internet through mobile devices
than through computers. The number of mobile Internet devices worldwide already numbers in the
billions.
Cellphones in the classroom will be a huge shift in not only the style of teaching but also in the assessment of students. In the session I hope to put some of these fears to rest while offering the hope that mobile devices should be embraced as they allow the promise of one to one computing and the ability for a student to learn whenever and wherever become a reality.
