Not such an educational-use, but my family is using EtherPad to coordinate who's bringing what to a family vacation later this summer. Sure, there are tons of free collaboration sites out there (http://tinyurl.com/6g854m), but EtherPad was perfect for QUICKLY setting up SIMPLE collaboration for a group of people all over the tech-savy spectrum.

Only flaw: your pad isn't secure. Then again, if anyone wants to know who's bringing the sunscreen, help yourself.

Again, I'm looking forward to using it in my 7th grade classroom in the fall.

A big downside of colaab.com is the requirement for Silverlight, which has a bad habit of causing my Macbook to kernel panic.

For a more sophisticated product which is just as easy to use you should look at http://colaab.com.

Share, collaborate and review in real time over a wide range of resources, such as office documents, video, audio, web pages and very large images, with a suite of tools for annotation, drawing, instant messaging, SMS and teleconferencing...
